I suspect she has issues related to "abandonment." Not that there's anything wrong with cloning your already dead dog because I sure have loved every one of my dogs and if I could get them back again, I don't know what I might do. I've been fiddling around at Yahoo Answers, mostly answering peoples' questions and now I've asked a question but the turnover in questions is so fast, a hundred questions get asked right after you ask one so your question usually gets buried. Which is what happened to my question, lol.

It's a good question, asking for links/examples of how the media has lied or made horrible mistakes. I posted several links for examples, like the fake Palestinian funeral that showed the "dead" guy getting up and walking.

Fla. lawmakers debate 'believer's' license plate

MIAMI (AP) — Florida drivers can order more than 100 specialty license plates celebrating everything from manatees to the Miami Heat, but one now under consideration would be the first in the nation to explicitly promote a specific religion.

The Florida Legislature is considering a specialty plate with a design that includes a Christian cross, a stained-glass window and the words "I Believe."

...If the plate is approved, Florida would become the first state to have a license plate featuring a religious symbol that's not part of a college logo. Approval would almost certainly face a court challenge.

The problem with the state manufacturing the plate is that it "sends a message that Florida is essentially a Christian state" and, second, gives the "appearance that the state is endorsing a particular religious preference," said Howard Simon, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida.

I don't know why, exactly, but sometimes my Internet Explorer loads the content of an iframe but does not display it until I click inside the iframe and hit "refresh." Sometimes, you just have to refresh the inside of the iframe to make the good stuff show up. This is worth the effort. Then refresh it again to see a new image!

These photos were taken from inside the center altar area of Stonehenge, looking outwards, which is the opposite of the usual view of Stonehenge. It was one long panoramic 360 degree photo and I just stopped and did screen captures along the way. I'm not sure now which St0nehenge website did this but I think it may have been the official website of Stonehenge (see links below photos to find out more about this mystical place).

Since about 70% of PC users are happy with their XP - or at least much prefer it to buggy compatibility-challenged Vista - a "Rescue XP Movement" has arisen on the internet.

You did know that XP will be phased out as of this June 2008. Off the shelves. No longer buyable at any retail outlet. And all new computers sold will come equipped with buggy compatibility-challenged Vista. Whether you want it or not. Choice does not exist in Microsoft's universe. Why should it? They own the universe, right?

Many Windows/PC users are now looking into Linux and The Mac. Anything but Vista. Microsoft has gone corporately suicidal.

Even Microsoft's business/corporate users so prefer XP to Vista that 67% of them have actually downgraded new company PC's from Vista to XP.

And the Microsoft folly marches on, deaf to the wishes of a majority of its customers, both home and business users.

Nevertheless, XP users are banding together across the internet to express their views and sign one fat humungous petition to keep XP alive. Or, at least to delay its demise. You can participate, too. Learn more by visiting the Save XP website from Infoworld. Sign the petition. Add your voice to the other voices.

And start thinking about all your options... the alternatives to Microsoft operating systems. If Microsoft loses a large chunk of their customer base, they will only have themselves to blame. At the very least, figure out what your options are.

The Stonehenge Dig

For the first time in a very long time, the British ministry in charge of antiquities and archealogy is allowing an archealogical dig at the ancient site of Stonehenge. It certainly is not the first time a dig has taken place there and I'm not sure what they think they can find but technology has advanced in leaps and bounds since the last dig so, who knows? Maybe the place will give up some of its secrets.

I've always been fascinated by that place.

You know, I'm not real big on corporal punishment because I really don't think you can beat sense into kids but there needs to be some serious punishing going on here. American Idol's "Project Greenlight Moment"

She is, in my opinion, one of the most polished performers currently gracing the American Idol stage.And there's a good reason for that. It's because contestant Carly Smithson (a.k.a. Carly Hennesey) actually is a polished seasoned professional performer. Yep, the dew in her dewy newcomer eyes is a bit on the fake side in that she's already released a CD BEFORE becoming an AI contestant and MCA Records has already poured millions into building her professional career. Before..she..ever..tried..out..for..Idol.

You see, both the CD and the career went nowhere. Carly was dumped by the record company - not the story she's currently peddling about how the record company "imploded" out from under her. Well, that and her story about how her CD went nowhere because 9/11 happened. People weren't into buying music post-terrorism, according to Carly. 9/11 finished her career. For the moment.

You really have to admire this girl's grit and bare-knuckle determination to have a singing career. She certainly has the talent to back it up. It's just that America is being led to believe that American Idol is all about discovering new talent, new unprofessional talent, not recycled pros with already failed careers.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. I mean, about pros participating in a contest for discovering new talent. Sure. Why not? But, be straight with the public, don't try to deceive us and even though I don't think Carly is trying to be deceptive, I do think the producers and promoters of American Idol should stop billing their contest as a process of discovering new talent.

All professional performers should be clearly labelled as such so the American public can phone in their votes accordingly, yes - they vote for the seasoned pro or no - I'm sticking with the new talent.

Don't you think American Idol should at least be honest with the alleged millions of its fans?

I understand the CD sales and careers of most post-show contestants have been somewhat disappointing so it might be tempting to send in a few ringers but then, you've changed the basic chemistry of the show and how the viewing audience will relate to it... once they know.

And, I think people have a right to know. That is all. As judge Randy Jackson says (it's one of his favorite cliches), "Just keepin' it real, dude."

Former contestants of Project Greenlight will understand the reference to that screenwriting and directing contest fronted by actors Ben Affleck and Matt Damon and producer Chris Moore.

In Project Greenlight, they actually had specific rules forbidding pros from participating in an amateur contest and then happily forgot all about their own rules once people had paid in their entrance fees.

You can make all kinds of things out of paper - some are printed out templates that you cut and put together and others might be origami. It's all fascinating. Lonely man calls directory enquiries 10,000 times

A Japanese man has been arrested over allegations that he called directory assistance over 10,000 times – because he was lonely.

It is reported that 37year-old Takahiro Fujinuma made the calls because he enjoyed being told off by the operators. He would apparently whisper 'darling' at the operators as he began the call, before begging female operators not to hang up on him.

He told police that he became thrilled when operators got annoyed with him. 'I would go into ecstasy when a lady scolded me,' the Jiji Press quotes him as saying.

Fujinuma is reportedly unemployed, and single.

Coroner's deputy: As body hanged, I ran errands

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (AP) -- A deputy coroner testified Wednesday that she was delayed in getting to a public suicide victim because she had to make personal deliveries for her high-profile boss, who is being tried on suspicion of using county staff to benefit his lucrative private practice.

Darlene Craig said a supervisor told her to deliver documents or other items for then-Coroner Cyril Wecht as she left for the suicide call, which was a half-hour drive from the coroner's downtown office.

"So I made those three deliveries before I actually went to the hanging," Craig testified. "And the body was hanging outside."

"Literally hanging?" Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Stallings asked.

"Yes," Craig said.

Wecht, 76, built a multimillion-dollar practice that has spawned books and television appearances by inquiring into the deaths of Elvis Presley, JonBenet Ramsey and Vincent Foster, among others.

He is charged in a 41-count indictment with using his Allegheny County staff as bookkeepers, secretaries, couriers and gofers for his private practice and his family. Wecht, who earned no more than $64,000 a year as county coroner, resigned when he was indicted in January 2006.

Another deputy, Richard Lorah, said Wecht intervened when a supervisor was debating whether to send Lorah on a Wecht errand or to the scene of a woman killed when her car was driven off a parking garage.

"They're not going anywhere; just let them lay there," Wecht said of the victim, according to Lorah.

Microwaved baby trial begins in Ohio

DAYTON, Ohio - Jury selection began Monday in the trial of a woman accused of killing her 1-month-old daughter by burning the child in a microwave oven.

If convicted of aggravated murder, China Arnold, 27, could face the death penalty.

Police investigators believe Arnold killed 1-month-old Paris Talley by putting her in a microwave at her Dayton home in 2005. Coroner's officials said the baby suffered high-heat internal injuries and had no external burns.

This is British celeb Amy Winehouse being supported (help upright) by her mother-in-law as they arrive for the criminal trial of Amy's husband (accused of a bar fight and attempting to bribe a witness).

Does this mother-in-law or the husband or anyone else in Amy Winehouse's life not care that Amy looks like the walking dead? Just look at her. She is obviously dying and from the British tabloids, it's apparently from drug and alcohol abuse.

Is Amy surrounded only by enablers? No matter what she's done or said in the past, she is a human being. Her human life is just as sacred as anyone else's.

Why was she allowed to stumble into court like this, dirty and disheveled and barely able to hold herself upright (thus the required assistance from the mother-in-law)? If she was to be assisted anywhere, it should have been into a hospital.

If someone looking this ill and disoriented and weak were on the streets of Los Angeles, a hospital is exactly where she would be taken, even if she had to be taken there by police.

I'm going to pray for Amy. I think she's a very unhappy self-destructive human being, but human being she most definitely is. And so she requires our compassion.

Reversal Of Alzheimer's Symptoms Within Minutes In Human Study

ScienceDaily (Jan. 9, 2008) — An extraordinary new scientific study, which for the first time documents marked improvement in Alzheimer’s disease within minutes of administration of a therapeutic molecule, has just been published in the Journal of Neuroinflammation.

This new study highlights the importance of certain soluble proteins, called cytokines, in Alzheimer’s disease. The study focuses on one of these cytokines, tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF), a critical component of the brain’s immune system. Normally, TNF finely regulates the transmission of neural impulses in the brain. The authors hypothesized that elevated levels of TNF in Alzheimer’s disease interfere with this regulation. To reduce elevated TNF, the authors gave patients an injection of an anti-TNF therapeutic called etanercept. Excess TNF-alpha has been documented in the cerebrospinal fluid of patients with Alzheimer’s.

The new study documents a dramatic and unprecedented therapeutic effect in an Alzheimer’s patient: improvement within minutes following delivery of perispinal etanercept, which is etanercept given by injection in the spine. Etanercept (trade name Enbrel) binds and inactivates excess TNF. Etanercept is FDA approved to treat a number of immune-mediated disorders and is used off label in the study.

The use of anti-TNF therapeutics as a new treatment choice for many diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis and potentially even Alzheimer’s, was recently chosen as one of the top 10 health stories of 2007 by the Harvard Health Letter.

Too much sugar-free gum linked to bowel problems

LONDON (Reuters) - Consuming too much sorbitol, a sweetener widely used in "sugar-free" chewing gum and sweets, can cause serious bowel problems, German doctors said on Friday.

The warning follows the cases of two patients who suffered chronic diarrhea, abdominal pain and severe weight loss after ingesting large amounts of sorbitol.

Writing in the British Medical Journal, the doctors from Berlin said the patients -- a man and a woman -- had consumed some 15 to 20 sticks of chewing gum a day. When they kicked the habit, both regained normal bowel function.

Sorbitol, also known as E420, is poorly absorbed by the small intestine and is known to have laxative properties. But Dr Juergen Bauditz and colleagues of the University of Berlin said many consumers might fail to link it with their gastrointestinal problems.

"Our cases demonstrate that sorbitol consumption can cause not only chronic diarrhea and functional bowel complaints but also considerable unintended weight loss -- about 20 percent of usual body weight," they wrote.

Once upon a time there were three roomates. They were old geezers, and only one of them had any source of income - his Social Security check. And that guy had the absolute bad manners to up and die on his poor roomates who had no way to pay the rent or buy the groceries.

Unless they cashed their dead friend's Social Security check.

So they bundled dead Virgilio up and set him in his wheelchair and off they went to the storefront where Virgie usually cashed his Social Security check. Pushing a dead guy along a bumpy sidewalk in a wheelchair is not an easy thing to do. These two guys attracted a lot of attention from onlookers as poor Virgie flopped around like a... well, like a dead guy.

They made it to the storefront and left Virgie in his wheelchair outside on the sidewalk as they went in with the check. As they dickered with the store owner over cashing the check, a crowd began to gather around dead Virgie.

And that attracted the attention of a detective eating lunch at the nearby Empanada Mama.

Brit Blindsided By Phil -- Hospital Acts Curiously

The article discusses the TV doctor's strange uninvited unannounced intrusion on Britney Spears' privacy who was, at that time, a patient at Cedars-Sinai Hospital.

Even more curious than the TV ratings stunt of Dr. Phil's was Cedars-Sinai's deliberate violation of Britney Spears' HIPAA (privacy) rights. What legitimate hospital allows an intruder onto the floor of a locked ward, behind closed doors, when their intrusion is not wanted by their intended victim?

Dr. Phil's claims would seem to suggest that Britney Spears' forfeits any privacy rights if he asks permission from one of her family members to do what he did.

Apparently, he's letting Britney's publicity-loving Mom onto his Monday program and getting in to see Britney was part of the deal.

Britney is obviously in need of legitimate help from people who have her best interests at heart. Where are THOSE people?

Engineering challenges are fun activities that are frequently assigned to students in physics or engineering classes, but they can easily be used outside of these venues. An engineering challenge usually has a simple goal and some rules about what sorts of materials you are allowed to use. These are great ways to get people thinking creatively and to foster teamwork and competition. Try an engineering challenge at a birthday party, office outing, scout meeting, or any other gathering where you want to have fun and exercise your creativity.

The Spaghetti Cantilever challenge is a fun one. Each team is given a small package of spaghetti, a roll of tape and a table. The objective is to construct a cantilevered structure that extends as far from the table as possible without touching the ground. The structure must be attached to the top of the table and nowhere else. Because spaghetti is very brittle, the engineering becomes very important. Measurements should be taken from the edge of the table to the furthest point of the spaghetti structure.

Woman charged for wiping nose on cop

A woman in West Virginia was charged with battery on a police officer, after the officer said she wiped her nose on the back of his shirt.

Cpl. S.E. Elliott said he had arrested the 36-year-old woman last week after seeing her slap a man, bite him on the elbow and spit in his face.

Elliott said the woman wiped her nose on him as he led her into the police station for booking on a charge of domestic battery.

Battery on a police officer is defined as intentionally making physical contact of an insulting or provoking nature with an officer.

G-string Santa arrested for drunk driving

In an impressive display of commitment to the Christmas spirit, a man was arrested in Los Angeles for drunk driving while wearing a Santa hat and a G-string.

He was spotted outside the famous Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood on Sunday, and was promptly arrested.

In addition to his Santa hat and the G-string (which was purple), the man was also wearing a wig, a red lace camisole and black leg warmers.

The man was taken to jail after tests showed his blood-alcohol level over the legal limit, and was later released on $5,000 bail.

In a helpful bit of clarification from the police department, Deputy Chief Ken Garner said: 'We are pretty sure this is not the Santa Claus.'

Hmmm... well, why not. Here's a dating horror story of my own:

When I was in high school, I believed in abstinence before marriage. Not just to not have sex before marriage but to also take good care of your body in other ways, like not taking drugs. Of course, I think I started smoking cigarettes during my high school years so I didn't always stay on the straight and narrow.

But I did enough that it annoyed a group of my peers, mostly boys, who took bets on who would be the first to, well, you know... and there had to be proof, as in eyewitnesses.

So I was going to be set up.

Ha ha... this is so great. You see, teenage boys can't help bragging and this one boy was bragging about making a "conquest" of me before it ever happened, going into minute detail of his plot and how it would all happen with ALL the other boys invited to be eyewitnesses to the event.

One of those boys was my best friend's deep-romance-committed-for-life (as only 15-year-old romances can be) boyfriend. He told her everything.

And she told me everything. Boyfriend love vs. girlfriend loyalty? There's no contest.

And we, in turn, told a couple of the girls in our little crowd or clique and we girls planned our revenge. For something that hadn't even happened. Yet.

The magic moment arrives and I allow this boy to persuade me to leave a party and just go sit outside in his car and "talk." Then there was some kissing. He was medium-okay at that but you can't expect perfection from a male of that age group.

Then he says, "Let's get in the back seat."

M'kay...

And as we sink below seat level, the dummies that were creeping up to the outside of the car, surrounding it so they could all peek in through the windows, weren't even that careful and I could actually hear them sneaking up to the car.

I pretended to be carried away by passion.

Heh heh...

And when I was pretty sure the witnesses were all in place, about to bounce up and eyewitness something that was never going to happen, I started laughing out LOUD.

The boy says, annoyed, "What are you laughing at?"

I answer, "But, I didn't know it would be so little!!!!" Oh, the heads started popping up in the windows at that.

Then there were bright flashes of light, flashbulbs popping, and the boys outside the car were yelling, "Hey!" and "What the -- [fill in your favorite expetive]!" and the three other girls in MY plot were standing on the curb across the street, waving their little cameras and laughing their asses off, too.

I sat up, said "Toodles!" and scrambled back to the front seat and was out the passenger door then laughing as I joined my girlfriends across the street.

The best-never-laid plans of mice and teenage boys...
